where “I met a lot of very nice people from around the globe in a similar life situation to myself, who had similar values, and I developed many long-term friendships from my time there.”
He also explained a little more about his “amazing and unforgettable experience” at the Malawi Medical Volunteer project.
Where is the Malawi Medical Volunteer project?
“The location of the medical volunteering project in Malawi is perfect!
It is targeted to the communities around Monkey Bay that are in desperate need of our help, on the shores of the picturesque Lake Malawi, with its stunning sandy beaches and mountainous backdrop.”
Did you find the medical project valuable?
“The project work itself was very valuable to the community, great fun, fascinating, and very fulfilling.
In Malawi, most individuals are uneducated in anything to do with medicine and have little money to spend on treatments or even trips to the hospital for themselves and/or their families – so they were very appreciative about being informed about the common diseases/infections that they may encounter and very appreciative for any medical aid we provided in the form of wound clinics.
The work was also very rewarding for myself and I feel I gained a lot of valuable experience in a completely different culture.”
How prepared did you feel before you arrived at the project?
“The Amanzi Travel staff were very friendly, easy to approach with any queries I had about the trip before departure, and extremely helpful and detailed in their response. As a result I felt very prepared for what to expect on the trip. I have been nothing but impressed with Amanzi Travel, and helped to make my time in Africa so special.
The staff located in Malawi were also very friendly, welcoming, and informative, helping people to settle in quickly.”
Did you do any extra trips?
“The optional excursions at the weekends were also thoroughly enjoyable, a great way to socialise with the other volunteers and make good friends, and an excellent way to see more of the wonderful country of Malawi.”
How would you sum up your time volunteering?
“All in all it was a fantastic and valuable experience, one that I would definitely do again.”
