We have joined up with MYCAT in Malaysia to help to protect the few remaining wild Tigers using the wildlife corridor near Taman Negara. Volunteer have the opportunity to join CAT Walks – jungle trekking in an ancient rainforest as well as visiting the Batek Tribe who live in the jungle – hosting a conservation education session before sleeping out with them overnight.
The wildlife corridor that volunteers trek is the last rainforest connection between Taman Negara and the main mountain range and is currently used by wild animals like a highway. Without the wildlife corridor connection the populations of Tigers, Elephants, Sun Bear’s and Leopards would be doomed. By jungle trekking in this area of lush tropical rainforest volunteers presence acts as a deterrent to poachers whilst also collecting vital data on animal tracks and signs.
As part of this three week Malaysia Experience volunteers also travel to the beautiful Perhentian islands to snorkle and protect the green sea turtle population through photo ID research and night beach patrols.
Volunteers not only experience the best parts of these amazing designations (Taman Negara and the Perhentian Ialsnds) but also learn about and help the animals and people that make these places so special. This is a must do volunteer opportunity for any nature lover visiting Malaysia.
